The Palestine MMA Street Team in Sydney have been busy! By taking on the ‘Volunteer Fundraising Challenge’, Sydney is now one of four cities participating in an international fundraising initiative aimed at gathering funds to establish a martial arts gym in Palestine to be launched in the upcoming months.
So far the Sydney team have organised a raffle ticket drive and launched a ‘Community Sponsorship Campaign’ on the online crowd funding platform Indiegogo. The most exciting achievement for the team, however, has been the fundraising partnership with Kung-Fu Martial Arts Academy that was established this week.
“Cool, we’re sweet with it…” were the words Teja Jaensch used in agreeing to support Palestine MMA’s fundraising efforts in Sydney.
Teja is the Director of Kung-Fu Martial Arts Academy (KFA), a local gym in Castle Hill, Sydney that has recently signed on to contribute to Palestine MMA’s fundraising goals. More specifically KFA has agreed to donate a years membership to their gym along with a full uniform to be used as a prize in the raffle ticket fundraising drive. Generously, KFA has also offered to donate $5 to every ‘Community Sponsorship’ over $30 that is bought online on the ‘Community Sponsorship Campaign’.
The Street Team Sydney are excited to be working closely with an organisation that is guided by similar values that govern the practice of Palestine MMA. Both organisations see sport and martial arts in particular as a way for kids to grow and develop physically, mentally and emotionally. Teja comments: “With MMA the kids will get fit and strong, and with a good teacher they’ll also learn tolerance, and that we most often hurt people with our words, not our fists.”
“The MMA initiative sounds great – mixed martial arts meaning that there are no dividing lines, everyone is equal, which is great for that location,” he added.
Palestine MMA thanks Teja and everyone at KFA for all their support and hopes our fundraising partnership will gather the funds needed to build a safe environment for the children of Palestine.
